Sincerely great reviews, Myles. It’s cathartic to read these after watching really frustrating episodes.

I’ve long been upset at the idea of Jane and Rafael getting back together - both because I’ve always been Team Michael and because it feels like a bit of a regression to me after the two of them spent so much time getting over each other and becoming platonic friends. I’m still reticent to the idea, but man, the…
I was gonna comment something along these same lines. Very glad I quit watching, but really enjoying these recaps for the wtf factor.
Probably, but IIRC, it was acknowledged that she was married to a younger man. So she’s still supposed to be older than Perry.
I am excited for this.
This could be great, and there’s a lot of talent involved, but I emphatically wish this could remain a miniseries. The ending of S1 was truly perfect, and exploring the aftermath is just unnecessary when it ended on such a bittersweet, but empowering, peaceful note.
That makes a lot more sense, age-wise. (Streep is 18 years older than Kidman, but 27 years older than Skarsgard.)
replied to the wrong thing. i hate kinja.
I thought this was marginally funnier than most of this season. I laughed as soon as Karl started playing piano - there was something about his timid, quiet playing (to hide how bad he was) that was hilarious to me.
I love basically everything about this premise and casting (that one “amusingly unnerving image” and the “stroke of genius” you mention especially make me excited), so I desperately want this to be good.
I agree with a lot of your points, but I actually liked this episode (it’s way better than the previous two episodes, at least). It was nice seeing Alice be vulnerable
Welcome back Pilot! You’ve been missed.
Still mad The Magicians isn’t showing up in the regular coverage slot.
As usual, agreed with basically everything you’ve said. I too wish this show would lean more into its dramatic tendencies, like it did in S4.
Agreed on the Quentin shot - felt like Jim from The Office.
I actually thought Season 4 was kind of the recovery, transition season after a weak 3B, and Season 5 was TWD at its peak. Loved S5, liked the first half of S6, then after that it completely shat the bed. I quit an episode into S7.
I think he should’ve died at the end of S5, when Bianca died. Maybe they could’ve had some suicide pact or something (especially if his cancer was still around, or something). I really liked the Bianca arc, but everything since then (except for the brief period at the start of this season) has felt like backsliding.
I just binged the first two seasons (after reading all the books) and caught up in time for the premiere. Sad that this won’t be getting regular coverage!
Kind of sad that there are so many revivals, it merits a news article when one show isn’t being brought back.
