I'd imagine human slavery would break some sort of Federal statute, too.

What might help this DA see the light would be a visit from the State Department after the Indian Consulate in LA puts some heat on. Also— could this possibly be a federal crime? I imagine there is a federal law against withholding the passport.
I'm wondering if the victim decided he didn't want to testify and just wanted to get the hell home as quickly as possible. That's the only thing that makes sense here, especially as there were clearly other people willing to testify on his behalf, too.
I believe there was some gender discrimination at play here, but I don't think she or her team showed it as well as they could. Kliener Perkins put up a way better defense than I imagine they thought they would. They honestly just didn't put up that great of a fight.
Apparently the DA declined to file charges
I would've thought this would come up sooner—it's way too easy to imagine tens of enslaved people "working" in a restaurant for (obviously) no pay and ungodly hours. It's ripe for the picking, and I doubt that this guy's the only one.
What a miserable looking bastard. Jfc
Whyyy did I decide to read this while in the throes of unending pregnancy nausea?
Just to add my own perspective in as a heavy toker...
Oh please expand on cutting weed down with other drugs. I am dying to hear this.
But like ... it's his life? He can do what he wants?
This is how I prefer to think of Jon Hamm, not the awful Don Draper :(
I actually had a friend who did this back in college (faked her own kidnapping, got found out by the police/media). It is a weird-ass situation to be involved in. At first, I was convinced she was dead, because that's what happens when pretty young women disappear. Then everyone I knew was ecstatic when they found…
ok, i'm SO sorry that my post isn't in any way related to this but I HAD to share it. So this woman got banned for posting THIS picture on Instagram for her visual rhetoric project :
I think the green one is jacks look though. Perhaps he too can find happiness in colour.
I'd hire Stokes in a minute; competent, decisive, and unwilling to be shit on by management. Good on you.
I hope she sues them for a lot of money. Secondly, UO are scumbags. The fact they changed their approach so their players can play in the tourney is stomach churning. I hope the administration who hide and approved this "transition", which sounds like she was forced to leave or accept some shirty role so she would…
Yep, the irony to this, is that UO will essentially be sued by all sides now. It'll be sued by the rape victim, this employee for wrongful termination, and probably the government for Title IX violations
Why does it matter if they returned the records to the counseling center? Do they not have copy machines in Oregon?
Jesus God, I hate organized sports.
