I guess bad people always overestimate how bad other people are.

I find that much more offensive than lyrics. What a disgusting jerk.

I’m not American and I find this appalling. You seem to be chastising Americans for caring about slavery.

I’m pretty sure NXNE’s sponsors are all private, though it certainly takes over the public space of the city.

I think it sounds straight-up passive aggressive.

You are fooling yourself.

First not all of us are American. Second, if larger markets such as Europe and South America even raise the possibility of a boycott they’d have FIFA’s attention, n’est ce pas?

No, you’re not understanding that those numbers are astonishing either way. You’re implying that a significant number of slaves died from causes totally unrelated to their slavery, and that’s bullshit. I don’t care if they fell off a platform, got crushed by machinery, starved to death, baked to death, were simply

I think it will have to be regular citizens like you and me boycotting FIFA WC 2022, since Qatar is a strategic ally to these governments. Everyone who is disgusted by this blatant corruption and cruelty should let their cable provider know they won’t be watching the tournament.

If you chose a random sample of similarly aged American men of the same size, you’d find that roughly the same number would die in a similar time period.

They enjoy being scared so much that I think half of it must be them knowingly hamming it up.

Hmm. That is not so comforting a thought.

This is adorable. I find it comforting to be reminded how young and gullible teens actually are.

“I hope it does comfort you to know that you’re not smarter than anyone here.”

Grilled peaches are amazing, second only to pineapple imho. I have pineapple on the grill right now with red onion, grape tomatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, celery and yellow bell peppers. I cut them into large chunks, drizzle with olive oil salt pepper and a little sugar, and bbq them in a steel basket.

In the Indian neighborhood I used to live in, vendors would sell grilled cobs of corn rubbed with a quarter lime and dipped in various curry spices. It was delicious- better than butter.

Goddammit, I’m enraged on your behalf. A curse upon him.

In refugee camps, helping women can be very difficult because of the nature of the societies involved (and their inherent misogyny and patriarchalism).

The people that do that sort of work are either incredibly brave or incredibly naive; perhaps a bit of both. I think that whatever aid is brought will be taken and more than likely the workers themselves.

What is needed is funding for humanitarian groups on the ground in these refugee camps. Using sexual violence as a weapon of war is not new at all, but it’s not a problem that armies are particularly good at addressing.
