Unfortunately all of our Canadian girlfriends are currently in detention camps for trying to cross the border.

Sounds vaguely like the proverbial Canadian girlfriend who can’t come to prom.

What a feckless runt.

I was wondering what the connection was. Like, did Roger Dean do cover art for Ellison’s books or something.

Lots of writers have that clause. Douglas Adams didn’t, and I think that half-assed money-grab release of the unfinished The Salmon of Doubt convinced more of them to do it.

“HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I’VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL

I knew it!!! I knew there was a deeper reason this coffee-draining, half-talented, Luis Buñuel wannabe has been making my skin crawl for three decades now (I mean, in addition to being The Single Most Overrated Cinema Artist of All Time*). Real talk: any public figure who inspires a sentence that contains the words “pr

I did read a piece recently about how various movements, like MeToo and the youth demos for tighter gun control, not to mention the increase in the number of women standing for political office in the midterms, may have been a partial response to Trump, in the sense that his egregious awfulness has galvanised hitherto

That may be great for folks who are socially or financially insulated enough to roll the dice of fate and wait progress out, but it always leaves a lot of people behind. Historically, said movements rarely think of those people.

Has the strategy of “Let ‘em burn it all down and we’ll rebuild an even better society” ever worked?

In Lynch’s defense, in something like Blue Velvet that presents the seedy weirdness underlying the facade of white idyll society, his minority characters aren’t representations of minorities so much as representations of minorities as conceived of within that idyllic facade.

Uh, what do you think “Lynch isn’t saying he’s now a red hat-wearing Trumper” means if not that “this is far from Lynch going MAGA”?

Let’s say that we each of us maybe extend a certain allotment of “good will points” to our favorite artists. If they keep delivering great stuff, then they get more points. If they say or do something stupid, they lose points. Lose too many points and suddenly I tend to despise someone I once enjoyed.

This should come as little surprise to anyone who’s seen any of his works and wondered if Lynch has ever spoken to a brown person.

Exactly what I was gonna say. Punk Rock became safe for them when they started worrying about only playing “big venues”.

She is annoying. She is most likely in her late 40s and complaining that she couldn’t see NOFX last month.

It’s totally punk rock to complain about not playing "big venues". On another note, that joke might've worked if he hadn't added that lame kicker.

Now playing

It does seem like an outsize consequence for run-of-the-mill-tastelessness. And he does accept the punishment outside of the hashtag: “We made a mistake, we apologized and we gotta suffer the consequences.”

Another defense that could be made is that humor is used, usually privately and usually not at the locale of a
