Hiding the fact that the average NBA franchise has appreciated $191 MILLION A YEAR since 2011, with any minor operating gain or loss added to or subtracted from that, makes it much easier to cry poor to avoid paying luxury taxes.

When franchise values multiply tenfold in a decade, into the $2 billion-plus valuation range, it’s disingenuous to cry poor just because some teams report an operating loss of >$5 million every so often. 

His last few seasons were an underperforming, gross circus of personal celebration while the team went to shit, but the Lakers had top-3 picks in the 2015, 16, and 17 drafts, were enticing enough for the best player in the world to sign there, and they’ve still got multiple max salary slots available moving forward…

I don’t think Kanter is particularly likely - if they do bring in a buyout-market backup C (less of a need now that you’ve got Boban to go big or Bolden to go small when Embiid sits), I think a defense guy like RoLo is a better bet.
