I've known two people who suddenly decided to pronounce their last name the "French" way. One was a Simon (now pronounced Simone) and Beshears (from bee-shears to besh-ears). If you're American you sound really pretentious when you try to use the French pronunciation (and likely butcher it anyway).
Calvin & Hobbes?
Covering it up?
