There are all sorts of skill sports that are constantly subjected to this same debate. Auto racing, bowling, golf, and yes, baseball. Personally I say that if you can get drunk while watching it, then it’s a sport. And oh boy, can you get drunk watching figure skating.
You really don’t see how someone uneducated in figure skating might think that the costumes, music, and choreography are just as important as the physical challenges, and why a top athlete like Wagner would want to push back on that? Or how the layman could conflate figure skating and ice dancing as parts of the same…
I’ve always been so comfortable about being a girl and then a woman but something about the Earth Mother speeches during my pregnancies made me feel so weird about this. I was happy to be able to have kids but that didn’t imho, make me special, billions have done it and women who don’t give birth are no less women…
Yeah, while I understand that trans men and non-binary people give birth too, and I welcome their stories and perspectives, I do think that there is something powerfully and uniquely female about childbirth.
