What's stark to me, even though it's a somewhat well-covered theme, is just how little correlation there is between amount spent and actual success on the field.

Something something Jamie Moyer, something something.
And this is why the State of Rhode Island didn't hear Schilling say "You'll never see your money again." That or they heard it but believed him when he said "don't worry that's just an ol' ballplayer joke."
I could not agree more. Jay and Dan were fantastic, and I would have loved to have watched them for an hour straight. But once they forayed into this bullshit, I had to stop.
I'm going to assume he's also responsible for at least one of the rec league emails that frequently grace these pages.
You can diminish Ichiro's accomplishment all you want, but the fact is they play less games in Japan. Ichiro only played up to 135 games in Japan. His batting average came down slightly when he transitioned (I'd guesstimate about .050), but playing nearly 30 additional games meant he got even MORE hits per season…
Donald Trump: only natural born American hits count. No one cares about how many hits he had in China.
"Strasser came to Oregon City after nearly a decade in the CFL. "
That's nothing. Eddy Curry hasn't played in the NBA since 2007 and he has no plans on retiring anytime soon.
Wouldn't be the first, won't be the last.
I love a good legal battle. Will this be based on the baseball is boring joke, the fact that it is a joke told in 2-comments or simply being unfunny or all of the above?
I really wanted to add "...and the games will be equally as boring." But I saw that DougExeter made a baseball is boring joke this morning and I'd hate to incur his wrath.
Pretty soon the target for tackling a moving human being who is trying to evade you will be smaller than a MLB strike zone.
+1 for a well-executed lawyerin' Joe joke.
Well aside from the obvious grammar error pointed out by multiple posters, I will add that in this context half is an adjective, and does not require the indefinite article. Half is an adjective modifying the word man. If you used "half a man", this is also correct, only in that instance half is used as a noun. …
Starting fires and minor explosions outside Arsenal's hotel is not only objectively brilliant, but also glaringly symbolic.
And we STILL don't know what happened with the French judge??? Thanks for nothing Obama!
So when you're too broke for a dash cam you ask your passenger to record on his cellphone? Is that the appropriate Soviet passenger etiquette?
Exactly. I'm a Giants fan, my local team is never blacked out. I still go to the bar to watch other teams, and I'd substitute YouTube for the bar some weeks since it'd save money.
Would this really cut into local market broadcasts though? I'd shell out the a boatload of dough to watch games in other markets on my laptop/tablet while keeping my local broadcast on my actual TV. I imagine this is how most people would use it should it move to YouTube.
