I stood corrected earlier, it was Greg Mays, but I think it used to be a cleo bay

That’s exactly what I was told by a friend who is a former car dealer. Had I known that while I was in there, I would have caused more problems.
I actually did have the financing set up before hand. The finance guy tried to bullshit me with my own financing! It was rediculous
still wouldn’t ever go back to CLEO BAY HONDA IN WACO TEXAS though lol
That’s almost exactly how that went for me too except the finance guy pretended to be on the phone with the finance company and when I walked out and told him to sell the van to someone else, he chased me out to the parking lot and said his manager would call in a favor to make it happen. Manager ended up knocking…
nice pipe. Find a clean XJ for under 4k now regardless of driven wheels. 2wd would indicate it’s less likely to be abused off road as well. If you want a 4wd, XJ’s are super easy to convert to 4wd with bolt on parts (numerous articles and how-to’s available). It’s a great starting point for sure.
“Turns out, the finance company won’t approve you if you don’t buy the extended warranty.” Oh yea? The extended warranty company that isn’t affiliated with the finance company in any way but happens to give you a sweet commission for every policy you sell? It’s also illegal to try to force a customer to buy an…
If I could have even found the van I was looking for anywhere else, I wouldn’t have stuck around. Between that experience and an AutoMax Hyundai finance manager foraging my initials to swap GAP for an extended warranty without me catching it (another story for another QOTD. He actually did it to multiple people and…
Wish this had worked for us. I sat in the finance office (after already having the finance worked out and ready to pay the downpayment) with a 5 year old, a 6 year old, and a 1 month old for a solid 3 hours while the finance manager tried to bullshit me into buying an extended warranty (“the finance company requires…
I have a tool for taking contours of panels in order to match them. Problem is, it doesn’t stay true and gives no way of making a reference point. May as well have saved $40 and eyeballed the cuts! or cut slits into a poster board and used that!
I didn’t even do the math on that but yea you are! the seats are probably 65-70lbs each and there were 23. I at 70lbs each, that is 1,610lbs and the floor was originally 5/8 ply with rubber on top. That was 8 sheets too. They definitely carry a good chunk of weight even before adding the passengers!
Mine was 17,200 lbs with seats removed, 19,600 after full build out, GVRW from manufacturer of 28,900 and the reassigned GVRW after changing the registration class to RV of 25,999. I really noticed no difference after building mine out. Buses tend to be very overbuilt and the seats are crazy heavy too.
This is the one we just got. It took me all of about 20 minutes to pull the old one but I haven’t swapped the pulleys yet. Looks like the originals for the DT466e’s are a 28si delco remy, but any single wire j-180 mount alternator would probably work.
that is a really good idea though it would be labor intensive. We though about doing something like that (could have hidden wiring in it) but we decided to go with the solid because it was sturdy, inexpensive, and quick. Ultimately, a full sheet of 3/4" plywood is around 50 pounds give or take. They are all cut down by…
We ended up building our interior like giant cabinets using 3/4" cabinet grade plywood. It was sturdier than studs with sheathing and each wall is thinner so it saved space. It ended up working out really well. Our bus is very decorated (my wife is great with design)but when it was just the bare plywood it looked…

Tis the season for bus based alternator woes! Our 3800 (also with the dt466e and AmTran body) ate its alternator on the way home from camping at the end of December. We had the same voltage spiking issue, followed by a battery drain anytime we kicked on the inverter, followed by a bearing screech. I pulled the belt…
I love the surface orbiter! I remember seeing this as a kid and wanting to build my own! and 12mpg for a 4wd amphibious bus is pretty amazing! I get 10mpg in my 01 international 3800 skoolie with a DT466 at 60mph! And basically the same at 50mph, so I cruise at 60!
Thank you! We have finally finished the project for the most part and have had quite a few offers to buy it now which surprised me!
beat me to it! that’s exactly what I thought this was. It does look pretty sharp to me.
