There was a time when Jalopnik was my ABSOLUTE favorite website. From the point Jalopnik came out when I was in high school until about a year ago, I read damn near every single article, even when I didn’t agree with the takes (because that’s part of the territory when reading opinions). Despite a few salty writers,

No dice. Way way way too much for that when compared to comparable van based campers or conversions.

Here’s a good nerd moment. Operational f15’s don’t have the Turkey feathers on the nozzles because of airflow dynamics issues that I can’t remember the explaination for but aren’t present on the f16. I’m curious how those conditions were changed in the quiet spike

Agreed. I want a pao and considered trying to get a worn out one and swapping a leaf drivetrain and battery into it

Adjusting fuel mixture with temperature/altitude. I had an ‘86 mini with an SU carb. Whenever the temperature would drop, I'd have to adjust the mixture to compensate. It became normal but still a pain!

Ya know, I do a lot of development work as a technician and I take great pride in the design changes and work I do. I can’t buy what I work on, but if I could (and could afford it) I absolutely would because the work has been a positive, formative experience for me. I keep a uniform from my time in the military and

I'd pay $1800 for it. It reminds me of a triumph Dolomite.

Not far off!

Now let’s talk about the VR5 used in other markets!

In all seriousness, we’ve been talking. About building another camper. Not bus based this time. The idea was the get a modern frame and drive train, slap a 60's to 70's medium duty cab and front clip on it, then build effectively a log cabin on the back. If this wasn't so pricy to begin with, this would probably be a

Ah ok, good to know! I'm not very well versed in old Subarus. Thanks!

My grandparents had an old GL wagon (I think? Maybe a Leon?) that had this! My dad talks about it as the first real detail of a car he ever remembered

I turned FSD off on my 3 the other evening. It kept erroring out when I applied pressure on the wheel like it requests, kept getting “pay attention to the road” warnings while I was completely focused on the road, and wouldn't stop changing to the left lane every 30 seconds or so.

Oh yea I absolutely agree. If I had a rig big enough for my whole family, we’d definitely go off the beaten path. But now our bus is the best solution. Just can’t go far off pavement with it is all. Still tons of fun!

Exactly! I did a few weeks going up and down padre national sea shore in my expedition. Wish I had pictures to tag!

I remember when overlanding was a sort of weird hobby. There were some really interesting ideas and diy builds. I built a camping expedition followed by a 2005 Tacoma about 12 years ago, before it became so huge. Back in the early days of expeditionportal. Now it’s pretentious and irritating.

Yea this too. My bus had one light like that. Meant it had 1 really bright taillight and very dim brake light until I swapped it

This. I've seen single filament bulbs jammed into dual filament housings more than once as well

This will sound RIDICULOUS but check the bulbs in the taillights. I have seen seen single filament bulbs forcefully jammed into 2 filament bulb connectors before and the will then illuminate the single filament with either the brake/turn signal or the tail lights. With that said, do the brake lights work when the

It does doesn't it? I didn't finish deleting my last sentence
