honestly the only thing wasted on the 3.0 h6 engine is they were all automatic transmissions. if subaru sold them with a manual in an outback that would have been amazing.
in a way the atlas 6 did shine but in the 5 cylinder engine form in the hummer h3. GM sold tons of those and they were wildly popular until gas got to nearly 5 dollars a gallon.

some people need to haul a lot of crap and / or miscellaneous amounts of people. Minivans basically win right now with the least downsides as far as driving characteristics and fuel efficiency and price. Also sliding doors are amazing and most minivans have a full roof rack to put stuff on top of!
