Look, if the two best offensive players the Lions have had in the past 60 years retire early because the Lions suck so bad it wasn’t worth the effort and bodily harm, how do you not blame the team?

Actually it is. You’re judging an entire career where he was actually pretty damn efficient based on a few key moments, while ignoring the thousands of other ways the Lions crapped their pants all year long and saying he’s the reason they didn’t go anywhere. Their league wide top 10 receiver is the reason they are 7-9.

Well he had 14 fumbles in his 135 game career, so those must have been some backbreaking fumbles. His last season he dropped 4 passes. Holy crap. Four!?! Clearly the reason the Lions went 7-9 in 2015 is his 4 drops and 1 fumble. Otherwise they’re an easy 13-3, right?

Not his fault the Lions were dumb enough to give him that contract. It’s football not the NBA, players have to get as much money as they can as soon as they can because the injury risk is so high and they could be simply cut at any time.

He was still the best receiver in the game when he retired but when your team has only one legitimate weapon on offense and that is Calvin Johnson, its pretty easy for a defense to plan for. While Calvin was in Detroit the Lions went 54-90, which obviously points to an endemic team problem instead of just one player, never mind their best player.

You can’t honestly believe that Calvin was the reason the Lions didn’t do anything. He was no longer Megatron, but he was still a top 15 WR his last couple years at worst. The fact that the Lions never won anything before or after Calvin was on the team leads me to believe that Calvin wasn’t the issue

I’ve seen my share of Lions games, I like them fine (best friend is a fan) and it kills me that they have had two of the best players to ever play - Sanders and Megatron - and the team has been so inept, so committed to awfulness, that these guys straight up quit their calling in life.
