Let’s just go ahead and get one thing straight: If you’re a non-Black person calling anybody any variation (because white people still think they can get away with it if they’re not using a hard R) of the word “nigger,” you’re racist.

Are you going to tell someone that their religious beliefs are wrong?

I guess seeing someone who has no idea what the fuck they’re talking about play devil’s advocate for somebody who took a chainsaw to the communities I work with makes me a little mad!

Who’s worse: a venture capitalist, or another venture capitalist who in addition to doing standard shitty venture capitalist stuff has also wreaked havoc on the core systems of a city?

Wasn’t trying to be smug or demeaning. I’m simply acknowledging that your experience will influence your conclusions, and there’s no requirement for you to appease somebody else’s assessment.

The owners here didn’t destroy the school system for the kids I work with, or ramp up institutional racism in policing that also affects the kids I work with, so to me it’s a lesser evil.

Except my point was that you aren’t punishing the fatcats, you are punishing the artists, programmers, sound designers, and testers that work for a developer that is owned by or partnered with that large business. People who are trying to make a living and will be inevitably punished for your campaign against Rowling.

I agree. I suspect everybody has a different line for when DrD should have been permabanned, but the decision to enforce ToU over getting paid is welcome.

Yeah... and admittedly, even I misread things and thought he was fired when it was just a leave of absence. Alas...

It used to be that way in the US, too... but over time, there were enough cases where managers were coercing subordinates for sexual relationships and people were getting promoted based on relationships rather than through merit. These things led to lawsuits, so employers became more vigilant about putting rules in

Well, somebody else corrected me that he’s technically on an unpaid leave of absence and still employed by Ubisoft, so... I’m back to feeling like the right thing really wasn’t done. /grumble

He neither resigned nor was fired. He’s taking a leave of absence (I.E.

I agree. I don’t care about his twitter indiscretions. I absolutely would be concerned about conflicts of interest and coercion at Ubisoft. Most large companies have rules about disclosure of such relationships, and the rules largely exist to ensure the arrangement is free of coercion and professional conflicts of

To me, it’s more than sufficient that he’s resigning from Ubisoft due to allegations that his behavior involved other Ubisoft employees. I wish him well on his exit from Ubisoft, and may he cash in on whatever benefits a resignation would afford him over a “forced termination done after an investigation”. If there’s

It is... but you know. But, at least they’re taking a first step. Reading some of the emails, it seems that at least some of the other co-founders have awareness of these culture issues. I want to believe these steps are genuine.

Maybe we can look forward to that black card and potential white cards being supplied in their solstice-ish time-frame gift bundle...

Thank you (and everybody ITT) for the recommendations. I’m headed off to Steam to educate myself :)
