I find Chris Lowell's character very enjoyable, so I loved getting a look at his family background in this one.

“Last night was breakfast for dinner night. And I was the only one who ate it.
Bash is using the exact words that his mom used on him, right?
That's awful. He was an outstanding actor.
Such a good movie! Hats off to Dan Gilroy for a dark, tight, unsettling and sometimes thrilling slice of neo-noir, and to Jake Gyllenhaal for a fantastic performance as the deeply creepy protagonist. His tone of voice, chipper demeanour, and inappropriate smiling were the best/worst. Louis Bloom is an awesome creation.
I found it slightly charming. If you don't, then this movie is going to be a total dud for you, because what it has going for it is charm, style, music, sweetness, and some exhilarating chase scenes. The characters are paper thin and the cartoonish crime flick aspect of it isn't up to much.
The film LOVES violence but the lead character abhors it.
Yes! I noticed that his outfit was just like Han Solo's during the foot chase scene. For a second it looked as though he was wearing a dark waistcoat instead of a jacket with light sleeves.
Harlots and The Handmaid's Tale made for some double-bill. Visions of the patriarchy, brought to you by Hulu. ;)
Upvoted for Planet Earth II. Essential viewing.
Dear Gorilla,
Underground is so good, right?!
Later. Or maybe tomorrow.
Christ!
That was really interesting, mostly the history, like Atwood's friend whose job it was (in France during WWII) to determine who was really British and who was a German spy. What a job! Imagine those interviews.
Both guys she treated appallingly are in the teaser. I wonder if the guy Molly treated like dirt is back too? I wouldn't mind because he was very cute, but frankly, I thought both women had burned their bridges.
This trailer is trying too hard.
If the regime was brought down and they were arrested, I think Serena Joy's faith would sustain her. She would need that faith to continue to rationalize her heinous acts to herself while the world condemned her for them. I could see her potentially living a long life (in prison) believing that she was right and godly.
Great comment. I particularly like your understanding of Serena Joy.
