I only read two of these, The Only Good Indian which was just great, right up there with Stephen King if you like horror, but with some psychological twists to it (especially the first long section), plus not all the characters are white guys from Maine. I also read A Deadly Education which was pretty fun, kind of

I’ll recommend Maria Dahvana Headley’s translation of Beowulf. Sometimes (as with Seamus Heaney’s translation) it gets a bit carried away with its semi-ironic use of modern vernacular, but it brings the energy back to a poem that’s always been translated badly. Beowulf is *fun* and this version never forgets that.

It’s got a Midsummer Murders/Rosemary and Thyme vibe but much funnier than either.

That’s good to hear - I bought it for my mother for Christmas. She likes murder mysteries and Pointless so it seemed worth the risk of buying something I hadn’t read myself.

I’m only halfway through it but I can recommend The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman.  Apparently he’s already sold the film rights to Spielberg (yes, yes, I know).  It’s just a great lightweight, fun murder mystery. But very, very funny.

Somewhere, Salty is doing a dance of joy.

Disney+ isn’t putting up a ton of new ‘tent (content) in January

I became a better tipper. I was a decent tipper pre-pandemic for dine in. But I now tip 20% for takeout and delivery, rounded up so usually more. I was definitely not doing that pre-pandemic. If things return to “normal” I don’t believe I’ll stop.

Word of advice, don’t cook the last one.

Short answer - No.

This year, I invented my new favorite burger sauce:

Last year for Christmas one of my friends got me 101 Asian Recipes to Cook Before You Die, and so far I have cooked 28 of them.

I learned this year that I was able to customize my fast food a hell of a lot more than I originally knew was possible, via services like Doordash and Grubhub. When they go away, I’ll still continue to be McD’s worst customer picky nightmare.

I will try and do that, thanks for the suggestion. Regarding BFTBS it is very much a product of it’s age, by that I mean it’s a very Thatcher’s Britain drama. Though with the way things currently are, one could see parallels with today’s Britain.

I guess I had always assumed that the ratio was 1:1 with boiling one cup of water, add the gelatin to stir and then add a cup of vodka. No wonder I have no clear memories of any of the nights that jello shots were made.  But the hazy memories I do have are fantastic.

Bottled product: Yuzo Kosho

I threw up a little in my mouth at peppermint vodka.

Hungarian apple girls seem like a missed opportunity for Grimm (I just did a rewatch.  I am running out of pandemic rewatches, send help.)

If I saw your process picture without context my first thought would be crime scene photos from some Wisconsin cannibalistic serial killer.

Is this college week?
