Are they really becoming that unpopular though? They keep winning congressional/senate seats and holding up everything Democrats try (not very hard) to do. They even managed to get one to successfully run as a Democrat (Manchin). 

The shallower draft also allows them to dock at more ports.

Yes. To me the only thing worse than a boring car is a fake one. EVs are naturally boring, and nothing will ever change that, no matter how quickly they get to 60. But still, I'd rather have them be true to themselves than to pump out some gimmicky fake noise to make them sound more interesting than they are. 

Don’t they already have that setting in the cars anyway, where they “wall off” the upper and lower extremes of the battery capacity unless you unlock them for something like a road trip?

I’m the opposite: auto-dimming mirrors are ALWAYS too dark. The cars I’ve been in that had them might as well have not had a mirror there at all when driving at night. Any amount of light shining in the mirror, even from a solitary car half a mile behind me, would make the mirror go pitch black; so of course driving…

Yes! Thank you! When I’m eventually forced to get an EV, the only ones I’m considering are the ones that have actual buttons/knobs on the center console (and that goes for non-electric vehicles as well).

Same here. I’ve been adjusting my mirrors to try to avoid having blind spots for a few years now, and I still turn my head to check. You’re probably right, buy you still have to add back in another 200-400 lbs of “drive units” (motors and gearboxes).

That’s true, and as BMW themselves have proven, you can have a hideous car without it also being an EV; but just like they’re trying to make EVs synonymous with autonomous driving, automakers seem hellbent on trying to permanently marry EVs with hideous looks, cheap interiors, and touchscreen controls for everything…

Only this time, we’ll have hideous cars instead of boring, boxy cars that are impossible to distinguish from each other; and awful UI that makes them a pain in the ass to drive, rather than a smog-choked engine that makes them a pain in the ass to drive.
