Hopefully by the 2030s, I’ll be at the point where I have the space and income to afford both a boring EV transportation appliance and a fun gas-burning “dinosaur”.

You’ve got a point about the nut-and-bolts aspect being better (though subjectively more boring imo) in EVs, but their looks are definitely Malaise-Era-awful for the most part. Just like the first Malaise Era had a few cars that weren’t nondescript rectangles and actually looked like someone cared when they designed

And they were right, at least at first. They had to go through the Malaise Era before regular cars stopped being insufferable crapcans with engines that had the power-to-weight ratio of a James Watt steam engine while manufacturers eventually figured out how to comply with regulations and recover (and of course

I can’t think of a single device with replaceable batteries where it’s not recommended that you replace all of the batteries when you change them.

This exact experience makes me want to avoid any newer vehicles. Virtually every car I’ve ever driven has “dumb” cruise control, and it’s completely hassle free. Me and some friends rented a car for a a trip to Niagara Falls a couple years ago, and it had adaptive cruise control. I had no idea it was adaptive, so I

Are you swapping used batteries into your devices? Probably not, unless you’re out of fresh ones. I don’t want to buy a car with a fresh battery, then swap it to one with several hundred recharge cycles on it and only 90% capacity, then swap to another one with only 80% capacity after that, then hoping eventually I’ll

All EVs will ever be are appliances, so I actually appreciate GM’s approach with the Bolts. When I’m eventually forced to buy a soulless transportation appliance, I don’t want to spend extra thousands of $$ on stupid gimmicks and pointless 0-60 times that try to convince me that I’m not just buying a toaster with

The same reason most EV interiors are nothing more than an iPad superglued to an empty dashboard - even the people designing these things can’t find a reason to be passionate about their work, so we get lazy designs like blanked grille.

If the Tesla Model 3 was “bland”, it would be a 1000% improvement in its looks. It looks like a Model S that’s been inbred for several generations, then beaten by the biggest ugly stick Musky could find.

The Model 3 still has that hideous bulge where a grille should be, and the Taycan looks like an inbred Panamera (which was already ugly to begin with). At least with they Taycan, the hideousness isn’t due to the grille (or lack thereof), but that’s only because Porsche has decades of designing beautiful cars without

“Say ‘gentrification’ without actually saying ‘gentrification.’”

Joe Manchin is a Democrat, and is the type of Democrat you can expect to stay in power by electing more of “Nancy & the corporate Dems”...

This isn’t anywhere near as impressive as I thought it would be. Am I the only one who thinks so? They just took the concept from the Chevy Volt, shrunk the battery, and squeezed a bit more efficiency out of the motor than what some of their peers are already able to do.

Wow her Twitter bio...she is clearly a super Fundamentalist adherent to the Church of Elon. I’m now not at all surprised by her hyperbole.

If she can’t be bothered to pay attention, she’s also probably the type of person who would overreact to being nudged by a semi and end up wrecking herself after the fact, so this probably did still save her life.

You’ve never heard a Formula E race?

Someone in Silicon Valley with absolutely no understanding of physics just got inspired to create their next startup...with products ready within 2 years...

It reminds me of the vehicles from the original Powerpuff Girls.

Because this is the internet.
