In this case it looked like the highway crew had installed falsework below the bridge as part of their maintenance of the bridge. I wonder if they even posted the reduced clearance on signs in advance. It might not be a “CDL issue” like you suggest.

I don’t know. Say you are following the classic 2 seconds, which is about 200 feet at highways speed. That van stopped and was going 0 mph almost instantly. Given say a 1/2 second to go to the brakes, means a vehicle would have to stop in around 150 feet from highway speed. That’s asking a lot.

According to these archaic institutions, nothing is ever their fault. It’s always the fault of those who’ve done nothing to harm anyone.
