The rule of thumb I read was: if you ever take a hit hard enough that you’re glad you were wearing a helmet, it might be a good idea to replace it.

But Pilots were able to to that because of some equipment. There’s no reason lore-wise why these fighters couldn’t also have jump packs. It’s just a gameplay/design decision.

Part of that is how early you need to confirm the sub. To make a sub for map 2 you need to submit it by the midpoint of map 1. If a player pops off and carries the second half, it might already be too late and a sub is already happening.
