They may have known what they were doing at some point, but they peaked 10-15 years ago, and have been making bland, oversized blobs just like everyone else ever since.

Except there are any number of more traditional comedies on the air/streaming. This is not what comedy shows look like. This is what *some* comedy shows look like. It's a bigger field than these awards imply.

Succession is over. The Bear can now be a drama. Somehow (and I don’t know how to impact Emmy voters) we need to get past the idea that “this is the best show, therefore we’ll give it all the awards.”

The first two seasons of Barry it was definitely a dark comedy. The third season of Barry was just dark. The fourth season I’m not even sure wtf was going on. 

She is also not throwing the joke writers under the bus.

I think S1-2 of Barry were comedy and then S3 took its real Sopranos turn

There is no logical debate here at all. The Bear is a fantastic show, but it shouldn’t remotely be considered a comedy, and it’s not fair to the other actual comedies to put them in that category.

The show was often cartoonish, especially in the later years, but seasons, say, 2-5 really had some fantastic comedy acting, and Applegate was often at the forefront of that.

Kelly was always a character known for prompting the hootin’ and hollerin’ from the “your dad and uncles embarrassing themselves at Hooters” studio audience, but even back then, she had some absolutely sublime comic timing and delivery that would continue throughout her career.

At first glance, I thought this was David Lee Roth.
