As a veteran of both career fields, I can tell you that a lot of the terminology is standardized to prevent miscommunication. It’s clunky and dehumanizing, but IMO, it’s really more about the standardization than it is about dehumanizing.

Easier to dehumanize people you may end up wanting to put in the hospital. Or the ground.

As far as I know, they’re ok with interracial dating (Robert Griffin’s SO is white), but they actually do consider homosexuality to be a real problem and have cut scholarships for gay students in the past.

The language of police reports is uncomfortably robotic. They all read the same: ridiculous. Phrases like “red in color hooded shirt” aka red sweatshirt. And to be fair (maybe) they say things like “the male” as well.
