after dumping potential hundreds into this game, I don’t think people want a TOTAL fresh start. I think people spent money knowing (this was officially stated iirc) that their characters would carry over throughout the series.

Yes, because there’s no reason that the new classes can’t be an evolution of the current classes. And also, why not add 3 new classes and keep the old 3? They are so much better off bringing over almost everything from D1 because then it’s easier to sell D2 because they don’t lose their investment.
