Still a strawman. Nobody is suggesting that an individual has the right to force someone else to do anything. We live in a society and I would hope its one in which you think nobody should go hungry. Healthcare, education, and not starving shouldn’t be regarded as privileges. We should treat them as rights. 

How do you think wealth is built? It’s not by the hard work or intellect of a single individual. It’s achieved by exploiting people. To that end, public support of individuals undervalued by their employers is necessary. If paid a living wage, perhaps sharing in even a little of the productivity gains of the last half…

That seems “fair” or “more than fair” until you consider the reason why. Nearly 45% of Americans earn so little that they don’t pay federal income tax. If these people were paid a living wage, they’d pay taxes and it wouldn’t be as necessary to tax the wealthy or tax wealth.

Unsecured student loans are insufficient to cover cost of attendance at nearly all colleges and universities. Secured loans are often required.

Ok, boomer. Blaming systemic failings on the victims of a system that has priced them out of higher ed and home ownership isn’t really a viable solution.

Difficult in practice. Well-executed ones with stipulations preventing the off-shoring of assets and enforcement with teeth would make them much more tenable.

Still regressive. Percentage of income paid as tax is lower for higher earners in this scheme. I’m all for prebating to aid the poor for current sales tax, though most states already don’t tax essentials .

Did you go to college? Did you pay for it yourself? If so, what percentage of your annual income did that require? Did you have sufficient collateral to borrow against to make up any difference? What century was it?
