Yeah I agree with this sentiment. Sexuality is such a spectrum and nuanced - not just a binary - that I believe it’s disingenuous to say he can’t play gay because he doesn’t identify as gay; there is something that we can all pull from. You can also make an argument that rich actors shouldn’t play parts of poor…

I don’t know anything about this specific author, but I’m fairly certain AVClub has outsourced a lot of its writing (including some TV reviews) to high school sophomores who are a few points away from a D- and need the extra credit.
