I actually like the look of the retro fender with the standard steelie — it looks a bit like a Caterham. What I don’t understand is why they charge more for the retro fender than for the larger standard fender, unless they’re doing Porsche maths.

It might just be that the engine has a harder time holding idle when cold, specially if the engine management doesn’t adjust for intake air temperature.
Peripheral-ported rotary engines have a lot of intake/exhaust overlap, which prevents them from idling below 2000 RPM. Still saner than an F1 engine, though.
