Keep it for the length of the initial warranty because, depending on the product, you may be able to just pack it up and bring it back to the store you bought it at.  After that, throw it out. 

I have my boxes for all my old consoles (yes dating back to super nintendo). Resale value in boxes is super high, the used game stores in my area sell the “complete in box” consoles for way more than a loose game. Also agreeing with Platypus that moving is definitely a great reason to have the boxes.
