Haptic feedback and analog sticks aside, even Sony has admitted that the Xbox controller design is better. Just look at how the Dual Sense practically has the same overall shape profile as the Xbox controller.

The built in LFG on Xbox is a godsend.

I think a lot of it is just conjecture based on what shipped in game as well as some of the people 343 hired during the release of Halo 5. I believe they brought on people who made Metroid Prime and some of the MGS games.
