The truth hurts.  He was a tragic, pathetic figure, destroyed by addiction.  He kicked drugs, but replaced it with booze. When he killed himself,  he did not just harm himself, he permanently scarred his daughter.  A selfish act by a selfish man.

Fuck him. He was a selfish alcoholic who left his 11 year old daughter to carry the weight of his suicide for the rest of her life.

I agree. It may save wear on the clutch to coast, but it is not safe. You can save your transmission by coasting down hills, but you would be insane to do it. Downshifting and engine braking are the safest way to drive, ESPECIALLY, if you own a 37 year old Toyota.
