Just alternate which sock you put on the outside. Mark them. Give each pair of socks a pair number (one for each pair of socks) and give each sock in the pair and A or a B (or a left and a right, whatever strikes your fancy). This can be very time-saving as well.

Why are you assuming that we’ll use the current communications infrastructure? We’re talking a hundred years in the future. Wireless communications will most likely have reached the reliability of landlines at that point, with major bands dedicated to transportation. That will not be an issue.
