The headlights are awful. I bought aftermarket ones from Spyder for $174. Its also the worst looking part of the car, so everyone should buy better looking ones... makes the car look 10x better.

The body parts don’t “Break” though... I mean someone has to BREAK it in which case you have insurance.

The SLK doesn’t have

Interesting thoughts.

All I’d have to throw on there- as superficial as it sounds- is you throw a corvette badge on a Ferrari, all else being wholly equal- build quality, performance, etc. and I’d expect a 50% discount.

If Chevrolet had a car as good as porsche, ferrari, etc. and had excellent build quality, luxury

Why do people think it will cost 5-15k?

It shares almost all its parts with the Chrysler Crossfire.

I owned one for 4 years and never had a single repair cost over $25...

Although I did have to rebuild the roof cylinders. Took a half a day and cost me $16 for the new seals.

I’m still on the SLK forums and don’t hear of

Only one of those can tall people fit in... the Merc!

I’d buy a boxster if I could fit in them, and the z3s are made for midgets. I don’t think anyone over 6'4 can fit in either.

I’m 6'9", and that is the only roadster I CAN fit in comfortably.

I can’t even physically get inside a boxster...

What I find more amusing is all the parts are way cheaper from Mercedes than from Chrysler...

So the mercedes is cheaper to maintain (but if you have the chrysler, go to mercedes for your parts!)

I always wonder if there really “is” a value proposition with the 150k zr1. I always assumed it served these purposes:
1- To offer a halo car
2- To say they do offer a car that outperforms european rivals
3- to serve as an engineering test bed
4- To give the media something to talk about when their bread and butter models

Peter- I don’t know why anyone would pay $150k for a corvette unless they come in looking for a z06 and get upsold.

In fact if I recall with the c6, most zr1s were sold way under 100k or given away to celebrities as a marketing stint. Are the Zr1s an advertising tool to help elevate the brand? or are they really trying

Corvette isn’t shuttering plants... The corvette brand holds its own and does pretty well in its own unique niche.

truth be told, I don’t “get” the zr1.

anyone I know who was serious about fast cars would buy a z06 as a base and modify it. I’m not sure who the zr1 niche really is.

I don’t know why anyone would buy a 150k corvette. At that price, I’d buy a z06 and modify it heavily. I’ve always wondered it.

I do own a six-figure car, but I sure as heck wouldn’t buy a 6 figure car with a corvette badge on it... mines italian.

I think the idea of a high dollar corvette is already awkward... it is a

If I was paying $150k... I’d want a nicer car than a corvette... lol...

I’m a corvette owner.

I wouldn’t pay ten cents more for better buttons.

If I wanted a nicer car, I’d buy a nicer car.

if I want a cheap performance beast I can throw into a wall or two, I buy the vette.

They know their market and do it well.

Air ride? I mean it will lose the appeal if it DRIVES like a fiero

I have a lifelong dream of Converting a Ferrari 355 to a Pontiac Fiero... with all the pontiac fiero badges and everything.

I honestly want to do it with the same level of “quality” that most the Fiero to 308s or 355s have. that means it will clearly look like somethings not right... but it won’t be clear what it is.

Is it fair to say “all F&I guys are like that”? I’ve met a few that are awesome... didn’t try to pressure me or upsell me or anything.

The last guy I bought for was showing me pictures of his cars, didn’t try to sell me a single aftermarket, and told me that if I put $120 more down, then my credit union would lower my

Tom, I’m in Ohio and I know at least US Bank financing includes prepayment penalties if you pay within 12 months. I wonder if it depends on the state whether they permit it or not.

I always feel bad buying a car because i know the F&I guys get PENALIZED for guys like me who don’t buy all the add-ins. I warn them in advance.

No. Prepayment penalty is “If you pay off in XX time period you pay a penalty fee of YY”. this is very common on commercial loans and similar... so I pay a 2% penalty fee if I pay off my commercial property loan in less than 6 years.

On car loans its often a fraction of a percent OR a fixed dollar amount, like “$200".

I know your asking this to Tom, but pretty much every car loan I’ve ever experienced either had pre-payment penalties OR loan fees.

Normally if you will accept pre-payment penalties you get a lower rate... so this might matter if you are trying to pay it off in 2 weeks, but most are only about 12 months or so, and
