I grew up with the original Akira dub but man, getting that pioneer dvd edition in 2000ish felt so refreshing, I instantly liked it so much more. Probably the pronunciations being better helped.

Yeah the dumbest move they made was making it require a dinky plastic stand just to sit horizontally, unlike the entire history of electronic devices before it.

oh I don’t care how it looks - it’s the fact that it uses a fucking stand to sit horizontally, and that when I place it back into my entertainment center I have to hold it *just so* or it’ll be slightly off-center on the stand and I’ll have to pull it back out, adjust, and try again. and I have to do this every month…
