I do not own a waffle iron, but I am very intrigued by waffled tofu. I like crispy fried tofu, the only place that ever did it the way I liked was Mama Fu’s, and they no longer have restaurants in my state, and I can never be arsed to figure out how to cook it. Waffling might remove that particular annoyance!

Being in a Latino-dominated area, we could add to the lexicon further by introducing the Spanish style Gs. So GIF could be further burnished by not only having ‘GIF’ or ‘JIF’ as pronunciations but ‘HIF’ as well. So there. The more the merrier as one might say.

I love that for all the car culture on this site and in the comments, my note about GIF has by far received the most attention. Some people have taken my comment way too seriously, so I would just like to point out the following - I used ‘Geez’ right after that on purpose. I know there are several words that start

If people got canceled for whining (which Mr. Brownell did not do, he was just telling the story of his day), your Kinja account would only be accessible via the Wayback Machine.

wElL AcTuAlLy, language is fluid, and highly influenced by common usage & pronunciation, even as that morphs and develops. So, whether you are “right” is irrelevant to how the word has become commonly pronounced.

Given that Steve Wilhite, who invented the GIF, has a germanic surname, I would argue that it would make the GIF germanic in origin. (Yes, I know he says it should be a soft G too)

I never said I was right, just that I will fight for it to be a hard G.

It doesn’t matter what the inventor says if most people say it differently, that’s how languages work.

I would also like to know how they pronounce “Gizmodo”

I try to buy less plastic. This means less takeaway.

Welcome to the club! LOL!

I’m white and have used both the margarine tubs and cookie tins.

This was a pretty long article on the merits of little plastic containers.

She apparently doesn't reuse them. Kind of odd she'd go out and buy new ones but doesn't reuse what's already at home

I have these containers, but they are all from Thai or Chinese take-out, and I don’t even get Thai or Chinese take-out with any regularity, so I was slightly surprised when she mentioned to purchase them. I mean, what do you do with your take-out, or completed cream cheese, sour cream, or other dairy tubs? Or pasta

or if you can’t get the pickle smell out, use them for kimchi!

Soup Containers

Every Latino knows about the Country Crock containers, aka Latino Tupperware. Shout out to all the abuelas who keep us guessing where the left overs are! LMFAO!

Any of the jars with wide openings are excellent.

Encouraging more plastic buying and waste in 2020 is irresponsible.
