I find it curious that there is so much mainstream coverage of this canonization when the concept of canonization is about a rather weird supernatural belief that’s not much different from believing in mediums talking to the dead. The difference being that dead saints are believed to perform useful work for the still

I didn’t know what you meant till I scrolled further through the comments. I’m repulsed, and confused. Mainly confused. It’s like someone streaking naked through a stranger’s wedding while screaming obscenities. Horrible, yes. But also confoundingly inexplicable.

Do non-Catholics understand that sainthood is not simply an honour conferred on people who lived particularly good lives? But that a minimum of two miracles must be verified to have been performed due to the intercession of the deceased? And that afterwards people will pray to the deceased asking them to ask God for

Thank-you! Annie Leibowitz was edgy in 1991. Now it’s just one more obligatory pose in a pregnancy photo shoot. Just as cheesy as a picture of dad caressing the “baby bump”. Uggh to all of it.

Given how well we manage to get along with beings from the other side of the ocean/continent/country/tracks, I sure hope we never make contact with aliens from another planet altogether.

My MIL had polio as a child -mild and recovered, but has had various muscle and weakness issues due to post-polio effects as she has aged.

Yeah, that’s a pretty important detail. “Delusional cult believes in alien intelligent design and encourages women to bare breasts”, is a slightly different story than “feminists go topless”.

Thank-you. Yes, my snowflake hat is similar to this. The sailboats might be similar, though from the bit of looking I’ve done far, intarsia might be a better technique? There were completed hats at the mill, do I might go back and have another look to see how they were done.

If I’d tried this with any cat I’ve ever worked for, I’d have ended up shredded, I’m sure.

That is such a pretty pattern afghan!

Oh, baths. That’s one nice thing about getting into fall and winter. It's cool enough to soak in the tub again.

I like the fancy loose leaf tea too. And picking exactly the right mug to drink it in.

I found the neatest bicycle seat for my small dog that I have to tell people about. It’s called the Buddyrider. Gadget likes it, and it’s nice to take her along for a ride. There’s s great off leash park not too far from our place but still farther than she’s happy walking. So this was great.

Hmmm. This sounds like it might work for me. I'm going to have to find a class maybe.

My twins ate all of them. Insatiable little monsters.

That's lovely!

I haven’t ridden much since we had kids, but about 12 years ago I made a trip from Alberta to Rhode Island on my own on a Shadow 750. It was fabulous. It was my first time across the prairie and through northern Ontario, and it felt like riding across a map to see the landscape change along the way. I carried a tent

No mosquitoes.

Gorgeous!

I also dug out a stalled knitting project this week and got started on it again. It’s a fairly simple wide scarf/shawl, but it will be a warmup to a couple of knitted hat kits I picked up on a visit to a woolen mill last week. (Neat place. It runs 19th and early 20th century equipment.) I might have been overly
