No offense, but it sounds like you don't know Americans. They are the LEAST worldly people there is. And most of them don't even consider their own citizens as American if they aren't white. It's a terribly racist nation and I would feel confident in saying the majority have no idea what any flag looks like other than

Its actually probably familiarity with the flag that caused this goof. If they weren't familiar they would have almost certainly just looked up the PR flag. But because they were familiar they just chose the flag from memory, albeit incorrectly.

Totally agree that it wasn’t malicious, everybody makes stupid mistakes at work, just find it curious because the flags are so similar. I would almost find it less odd if it was just a completely random flag, and yet it still could be with the similarity being a complete coincidence, but that just seems so unlikely,

you think they could pick out their own state flags let alone a territory? texans frequently post up the chilean flag and they are some of the most up their own ass proud of their state people in the country.

I could not tell you what Hawaii OR Alaska’s flag look like right now either... I think Alaska is blue with a star on it? (goes looks - ah, close)

I’ve lived in the US my whole life and could not pick out a single state flag, except maybe California (because it has a bear!) and Colorado (because it has the letter C). Though I might get them mixed up with each other. I’ve lived in New York and Pennsylvania most of my life and couldn’t tell their flags apart if

I mean it’s likely that this job of adding the flag was sent down enough times to some lower level developer in charge of Miles’ apartment and there were just verbal instructions attached with the email, or the boss copy and pasted the wrong flag into the email.

I thought was an article about Spider-Man not GTA but what do I know I guess ...

It might be simple misclick. There may be a folder with a bunch of graphic assets that are stored for flags, and rather than searching, the person popped into the folder and grabbed the wrong asset.

I find the brainfart that led to that error more fascinating than anything. Sure, the flags look similar, but it’s not like somebody is grabbing them out of a hat in order to make a digital render. I just want to know how it happened. Did they just space and think he was Cuban or were they really searching, “blue,

Gotta be a tough review to write if we can’t talk about how the game actually works for fear of “spoilers”.

Spoiler culture has gotten out of hand if you can’t discuss game mechanics, and Kotaku should know better than to humor that.

I think it’s much more fun to be pleasantly surprised by a brand new surprise mechanic, or twist in how the levels work, or new creature Mario can turn into, than to already know it’s coming.

Lukewarm take

Spoiler: Princess Peach moves in with Bowser and Mario ends up kidnapping her.

If you saw how people reacted to mechanics ‘spoilers’ from the TotK article that discussed them, you’d probably understand the precautions.

Spoiler Alert; The princess is in another Castle!

My god spoilers for a Mario game. What a waste of an article and some interns time.

Spoilers?

Spoilers? It’s a Mario game.
