I have Deadspin on my toolbar at the top of the screen, and every morning I still hit it when I’m having my coffee and catching up on this really shitty, obnoxious world. Muscle memory and now lost hope, I suppose.

Occasional commenter here, coming here to associate myself with the above comments - they are my thoughts exactly. Every day I read something on Deadspin that makes me laugh and think, often in the comments. All of these people are simply finding their own ways to leverage the monarchy to achieve their own goals, whatever they may be. Which is probably what any of us would do if we had intentionally put ourselves in a similar position, as they have, but it doesn’t change the fact that they are basically doing business.

The Royal family is about as modern as the Pope is cool. All William and Harry did differently was pick their own wives. Those wives completely transformed their lives to fit into royalty while the men did nothing to change theirs. So THAT didn’t really change.

The idea of a monarchy at all is archaic so all of that wealth, prestige and privilege that was accumilated for doing nothing should be rejected if they really want to modernize anything.

I’ve been a regular here since 2006. My social circle doesn’t really allow many opportunities to talk sports so I treasured that this was THE place that allowed for my dumbass jokes and ridiculous takes to be heard (and even then, there were better comments made by better people).
