From what I hear, that’s the way it’s trending - my mentor is a true generalist OB/GYN, and he said that it’ll basically be impossible to practice that way outside of rural areas within a decade or so. Everyone seems to be subspecializing, and if you don’t you still have to choose between being a laborist vs.

Yes! I love the CNM at my school - many of them are more willing to teach than the OB/GYNs, and a lot of skills that are less common in hospitals have been preserved in the midwife community.

Doulas can’t do procedures, but they’re not pointless - their role is to support the woman and advocate for her so that the doctor/NP/CNM can focus on the clinical aspect. In a lot of situations they’re a workaround for the fact that clinic docs are rushed and short on bedside manner. It’s definitely not hands on, but

I’m well aware of the difference between a midwife and a doula, but for someone who might be short on resources or be nervous about committing years of their life to school, doula training is a great way to gain exposure to the clinical practice while actively helping women - at least two of my medical school

How long ago did you graduate, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m hoping to match into OB/GYN, and I’ve heard pretty conflicting things. It seems like the age of the generalist OB/GYN is on its way out though, and the laborists I know seem pretty happy with shift work even though it throws most of the continuity of care

That’s so wonderful, what a cool passion! I think it’s really easy to feel “too old” at 25, 27, 30 without realizing how much of your life is still ahead of you. I was definitely nervous about going back to school, especially after interviewing at some places where I was the oldest candidate by 5+ years. Luckily the

There’s so many ways to do it! Not just as an MD, but nurse practitioners do a lot of basic OB/GYN care if you wanted to be a primary provider, or there’s nursing for a more supportive (but super important!) role. You could also consider doula training, since a lot of places will have doulas for IUD insertions and

I wore a sleeveless, eggplant-colored, floral Gunne Sax dress with velvet panels to my prom, with 1,000,000 layered chokers and macrame bracelets because it was still 2006. It was awesome.

i’m all about the dog songs. my favorite is to eye of the tiger: “dogs! you’re both dogs! you’re both dogs! i’ve got two doooooogs” :-|

I’ve got a pit-whippet mix that ended up with the front half of a pitbull (big head, stocky chest, bow legged) and the tiny, skinny butt of a whippet. She looks ridiculous.

I love aerial yoga! I’m scared of heights but you never get that far off the floor, and when I nail a sequence of wraps and twists and pop into a position that looks super fancy I feel so badass! It’s great because you can get deeper/more supported stretches than otherwise.

Seattle is also very segregated, with a lot of tensions as historically black neighborhoods are gentrified into oblivion due to the housing crunch.

I looooooooved BabyFeet but I also have a high threshold for gross skin things. Super satisfying, super smooth feet two weeks later, but you have to be able to get through a solid week of sloughing off huge sheets of skin. I didn’t mind, but my husband made me wear socks in bed because I was leaving a trail of flakes

The college I went to had gender neutral dorms and it was...not that big a deal? Granted, only a few of us out of 25 or so in the dorm were minors, so there was less of a vested interest in keeping us celibate, but even at 17 and 18 we all had a pretty firm understanding of the idea that sleeping with someone you

I’m sure that legally speaking the entire situation is a bit of a mess, since re-purposing other people’s images for reinterpretation/recontextualization is definitely A Thing these days, especially now that it’s so easy to disseminate artwork via social media and images quickly become ubiquitous. That said, I don’t

I mean, obviously he remixed her image by copying it exactly. It’s a conversation on attribution! That no one was having until he got caught!

It’s extra bullshit because if you look at the latest update on his gofundme, he’s claiming it’s not plagiarism because the original artist “stole” the image of Michelle Obama from a photographer, aka she reimagined a conventional portrait without changing the pose and that’s totally the same thing as lifting an image

I’m in a similar situation and like you it doesn’t really bother me - my husband’s family speaks french at home and conversation tends to drift out of english, especially once people have had a few drinks. I’m by far the most introverted person there though, so I usually take it as a welcome break from conversation.

I have an IUD and a light, spotty period and I LOVE my Thinx! Pulling out a dry tampon is the worst feeling in the world and I like white sheets too much to free bleed, and Thinx are comfy, reasonably cute, and just crunchy enough for me to tap into my inner hippie goddess, but not so crunchy that I’m menstruating on
