If the show doesn’t go out live, there’s absolutely no reason to play the clip during the recording. Do it in post.
It may not be “reasoning.” It could simply be flight from an anxiety-triggering situation. Mental health isn’t easy to reason through.
Record the interview, then insert the clip afterward - perhaps before the interview is played. Easy solution.
