This incorrectly assume things like braking and tire technology remain constant. Which they don’t.

You got them mixed up. Hybrids don’t use CVTs. They use eCVTs. They are planetary gears which are part of the electric motor. Much more reliable than even a conventional CVT. Only downside I see is, depending on the engine, it may sound bad.

The more time that passes the more I appreciate the compact dimensions of the LS/LT engines.

Doesn’t this (or something similar) happen in every state where inspections are required? Last state I was in where they had them, you could just slip the inspection station a few extra bucks and you’d pass no matter what shape your car was in.
