Poor baby, I hope they throw the book at her. :(
Poor baby, I hope they throw the book at her. :(
I just can't imagine, having a young creature, completely dependent on you, loving you, and you take that love and slowly, intentionally torture him to death. With him not knowing, still thinking that you'll do anything for him, because he's your baby.
But we're all making Olivia face reading it.
Not trying to be "THAT" person, but the boy's name is spelled different ways throughout this piece.
How often do men commit Munchhausen by proxy? I've only read of women doing this to their children/assorted people they're responsible for. I'm sure there's a lot of complex chemical imbalances in the brain and sciencey things I don't know about, but are women more effected by this because our worth is often…
I actually was riveted by this coverage by the Journal News. Read everything they had in one sitting on Lohud.com. This woman is nuts. A master manipulator. You could make this up - it reads like an SVU episode. Except Olivia didn't get to save the day.
"Munchausen by proxy, fed by social media sympathy"
But calling someone 'ignorant' because they have not read a particular book of reknown, or watched a classic film, or familiarized themselves with a famous work of art, or listened to a significant score is presumptive, and to be honest, rather rude.
Wouldn't it be much more effective to suggest the book, and mention…
If not recalling details of a book/movie makes one ignorant then I weep for humanity.
Huh boy. Yes, and we all should remember every character's name in Moby Dick, Pride and Prejudice, War and Peace, TLOTR, ShoGun, The Iliad, the bible...
I saw the movie, loved it. Read the book, loved it. But it was over 20 years ago, and pardon me if I can't recall every character of every book I have ever read.
REACHIN…
I've seen The Color Purple, I did not get this joke. It's mostly because I had forgotten the names of the characters. Not committing characters/plot points to memory is HARDLY the same as having a "cultural lapse".
Yes. Because in the popular lexicon, references to "Harpo" make everyone think of a secondary character in The Colour Purple. I mean, what other possible cultural icon could people think of when they hear the name "Harpo"?
Jesus Christ! Not knowing or remembering The Color Purple does not make one "culturally unaware." I am betting you don't know who Satan João is.
The people on this site, I swear to God, are the biggest bunch of self-congratulatory twits.
I think it has to do with how old people are; if you miss films the first time around, you might not see them until you start going back through classics later in life. I haven't seen it either, but I will now.
Hey, I read the book and didn't connect the reference. Play nice!
Only out of personal confusion. He tries to beat his wife so that she'll obey him, because his abused Step Mother advises it. Then his wife kicks his ass. Then they hang about for a couple years and she leaves him. Then he gets a new girlfriend.
I didn't realize that seeing the Color Purple (or reading the book) is the one and only measurement of whether someone is culturally aware. I guess I better get on that. I can't believe I saw all those other movies for no reason...
I was thinking of Harpo Marx. I forgot the name of the characters in The Color Purple. other than Celie and Shug, sorry.
Harpo is a character from The Color Purple. He is a player, has a wife and girlfriend. There is more to it, but I haven't read the book or seen the movie in a long time and do not want to misrepresent the characters further.
