A conviction which, I believe, belies an ignorance of human nature. I believe my point still stands. I mean that sentiment sounds great, but in my opinion not only is it unrealistic but it’s damaging to society as it encourages complacency and a lack of participation, which is essential to a functioning free society.

The problem is this means nothing when the vestiges of the GOP spent decades telling people that voting Democrat was the equivalent of pissing on their own mother. A sizable chunk of those “independents” say things like “well yeah I know, but I could still never vote for a Democrat”.

Oh, this I know. I should know better but this particular type always gets to me, as through their pretentiousness they seem to fashion themselves (sub)cultural gatekeepers, rather than...you know, the trolls they are. They’re just as toxic as jock bros and they’re the reasons I never let my geek flag fly.
