In the old one it was a 6 speed torque converter auto. I guess it’s been carried over for this generation.

I personally dislike sunroofs. If you want to have the sun on your head buy a convertible.

The reason why you might want a GTI is not more power, but rather more suited to motorway driving and commuting.

Love it, but if it is your only car it is not very well suited to commuting and motorway driving. That’s where the turbo comes in handy, not for more power but to make it more long-legged.

Well, my first car was a V6-engined Audi 80, so there it goes. With that lump over the front axle handling was uninteresting, but I grew quite fond of the compact saloon with the six cylinder engine.

Fiat does have the 500X. But I suspect the Renegade sells far better.

Indeed. Daily commute can be short, but what about trips on weekends? And I refuse to drive my car everywhere as if I was in an economy run.

Nothing I can disagree with.

Oh the average salary does buy new cars here. Mind you not Golfs, but Leons or Ibizas which can cost between 15-20k € depending on spec. One thing they do, though, is keep them for 8 to 10 years easily.

The same as in Oz is probably true for most European countries except for capitals / big cities.

Living in Barcelona this is even more true. I have family in the Girona province (about 60-65 miles away), but something like a 130bhp Leon would be more than enough probably.

I understand that the average in Spain is higher than a 100% annual salary.

I remember when I was in the market for my first new car I test drove a Twingo RS Cup (ended settling for an MX-5) and there was a Laguna Coupe in the showroom. I thought it was beautiful, but expensive!

There was a Coupe Quattro a long time ago in a dealer nearby. The car wasn’t in bad condition, but they were asking like 7 or 8 grand. Never got around buying it…

Ah, the Laguna Coupé. A beautiful understated car. Of the four I’d have made it my first choice.

Nothing too exotic, hot hatches such as the Clio 172 and the likes. My mother had a supercharged Cooper S which I used to drive, so dream fulfilled, I guess.

There would be a reason if there was something similar to an American Autobahn.

I missed writing “to Europe” in the first sentence… 🤦🏻‍♂️

Exactly why would anyone would want a car-cuv-suv-pickup mish mash? Sure it would have the disadvantages of all them with none of the advantages.

I am sure that the base engine is more than adequate engough. Especially if you are never going to exceed 70-75mph…
