Would you consider the 308 or Urraco supercars? Because the 488 and Huracan are their descendants. The only difference is that progress has made them blindingly fast.
You were completely right... until you mentioned Fiat. They are widely acknowledged to have one of the worse steering feels on the market.
You could even argue that a 911 Turbo S is just a mega fast (and mega expensive) sportscar.
This car deserves a sale. But there are many other competent sportscars for similar or lower prices, many from mass manufacturers, which are less rough around the edges.
The “concessions” include division / part-company spin-offs or sales to avoid market share concentration in certain segments.

In my opinion Mazda’s are fine. Perhaps the previous gen cars were slightly better in some cases, but fine anyway.
The XC40 is the discordant note in a lineup of otherwise agreeable cars.
