Nah I do this too. I think my brain has repressed 80% of the early aughts to shield me from teenage embarrassment.

This is so odd to me. I’m in my mid-twenties and MCR was my favorite band in middle school. I can see why their music would still be alluring to disaffected kids, and I still listen to some of it, but it seems so weird that kids would fixate on bands from 2004/2005.
Unfortunately I sometimes think that social media - even though it’s great in a lot of ways - gives predators like this easy access to the exact kind of kids that were targeted at concerts back in the day.
Yeah, this is majorly fucked up but probably depressingly common. When I was 14 and trying to figure out my sexuality, I slept with a shitty singer from a shitty emo band who was the same age as this fucker. All the “you’re so lucky” bs makes a lot of sense when you’re barely in your teens. It’s fucking gross.
Not sure how you got that from my comment. The reason I’m skeptical about Alex Jones being anywhere near cable news is because that’s the exact medium that folks who are vulnerable to fear-mongering tend to prefer (idk the statistics, but I’m unfortunately surrounding by people who either voted for or considered…
Yeah, the “lets show both sides” philosophy is why I don’t think the interview is even worthwhile. She’ll ask a bunch of softball questions, make a few kiss-the-ring statements, and avoid anything resembling, you know, actual journalism.
I’m late to this article, but I wanted to chime in. I actually think that letting people like Alex Jones talk themselves into a frenzy can be an effective way of showcasing how ridiculous they are. But for that to happen, you have to have the right interviewer. And that’s not Megyn Kelly, IMO. Plus, in a way, I don’t…
Maybe not. But in a lot of jurisdictions, bars can be charged if someone they overserved gets in an accident. I could see how this might be similar.
I was going to say the same thing. The fact that the producers provided copious amounts of alcohol (which I’ve heard is common in every iteration of the franchise), then that in conjunction with a murky sexual encounter could be a big liability.
Same. Now it’s all white dudes with dreadlocks doing Reiki and rich ladies steaming their vaginas.
Empathy and compassion are not the enemy of reason. Plenty of people are able to look at a tragedy and say “I feel really awful for everyone affected, including those dealing with the lingering aftermath.” I’m not suggesting that people stop talking about or donating to the families of the murdered men. However, I am…
You really have no idea what my sphere of influence is like, so it’s odd to assume I am even able to surround myself exclusively with like-minded folks. I’m also a lesbian, so the idea that I’ve honed my forensics on men I’ve fucked is laughable.
Disagreeing with you doesn’t make me a jerk. I’m also not the only person who used the specific verbiage you take such great umbrage with. In fact, you’re the one name-calling and being condescending. I’m sorry if I hurt you in some other way, but I didn’t do any of that. You replied to my comment to another person,…
I’m not the only person who called you out on agreeing with someone’s abusive mother. If you’re going to continue replying and claim I “know it’s about more than clothing”, then I’m going to respond.
It’s not though. Like, you literally have not brought up any other thing she’s actually done that has you so damn concerned.
I said your concern is really similar to that of the religious right, because it is. You have this paternalistic notion that you can glean so much about a woman’s life and mental health from her clothing. I didn’t claim to know your spiritual beliefs, just that you’re sort of mimicking the assertions of people who…
Also, as I pointed out several times over, my upbringing was not that different than Ariel’s. Granted, I wasn’t a famous actress, but the tactics her mother used to abuse and control her are remarkably similar to my own mother’s behavior. If your entire basis for your rather infantalizing concern is that you’ve been…
This isn’t about Feminism 101, nor did I even mention feminism in my comment. You don’t know what school/wave of feminism I or other commenters subscribe to, so it’s a little odd to act like that’s why we’re bothered by your concern trolling.
Ugh yeah, it’s really fucking frustrating tbh. Idk what it is, but lately I’ve noticed a lot of weirdly misogynistic comments that don’t seem to be coming from traditional trolls.
Also, it isn’t an “emotional statement” to point out the clear disparity in news coverage. Like, that’s quite literally a factual statement.
