No, I pay mortgage instead of rent because rent is high and landlords can decide not to renew my lease at will, forcing me to move and spend lots of money on said moving (realtor fees for new apartment, etc). Maybe this sounds awful, but why do we pay the ransoms? Crime happens all the time, and in the end, if they don’t get rewarded for ransoming captive crew...it’ll be less incentive to attack. A lot of risk for bulk cargo worth less than what we currently pay them for a person, as said in the article.
