Seems like it’s targeted at getting a young modern audience acquainted with the series (kinda like the Maximum Ride manga from a couple years back). Nice thing about the series is that it holds up damn well in any incarnation, so it shouldn’t really be any different.

Shinkai really does have one of the most bulletproof filmographies out there. Always gonna be one of my automatic-watch creatives. Can’t wait to see this!

Fuck nostalgia, the story actually holds up as an adult. Ain’t many YA series like that, especially from that era. Good lit is good lit, no ifs ands or buts!

It was between her and Lana Del Rey in my eyes - this is gonna be awesome, considering how much she and Finneas have always been open about appreciating the ties between classic movies and their music.

assuming this is the exclusive you were hinting at on Twitter yesterday: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH is all I can say rn

I know Nyong’o always looks right, but there’s right, then there’s right. Dear lord, this look is just perfection. V curious what shoes she’s wearing under that, though...

between this and that godawful-looking will ferrell force majeure remake, we are entering truly cursed territory here

Craziest thing I saw last year was a whole mess of discarded electric scooters piled up around and on top of the Grassy Knoll in Dallas at night. Genuinely haunting for reasons I can’t quite articulate.

Avatar was the most visually impressive movie to be released in its time, and I don’t doubt that the rest of the series’ll hold up to that standard.

I’ve always loved it for its art direction (it’s the first time I can remember seeing a fully unique fictional ecosystem displayed in such visual detail), as well as having one of the finest soundtracks of all time (albeit I’m an unrepentant Horner superfan, so take it with a grain of salt). Story’s shit, acting is

Miracle Workers is getting another season??? I HAVE SUCH A HUGE SMILE ON MY FACE RN THIS IS SUCH A HAPPY SURPRISE AHHHH

Rogowski’s damn brilliant. He makes a wonderfully strong impression in A Hidden Life as well - hope he keeps getting work, because lord knows I’ll keep showing up.

I’m delighted to see so much love for Asako I & II, Ash Is Purest White, and Transit. Haven’t been able to get any of ‘em out of my head after a full year and change - all deeply worth a watch.

Perfect. Thanks for the update!

How does it make it redundant? Two interpretations are better than one, especially considering how far apart their angles of attack are on the legacy of the original series. If they were telling the same story, sure, but both seem like they can very happily coexist.

Paratext is literally the M.O. of Watchmen at its core, haha. See: review paragraph two, aimed at all those who skipped The Black Freighter when reading the original series.

Petey! The whole Fogdancing excerpt from last week all but confirmed it. V curious if whatever they add to Peteypedia this week will make it ironclad.

One of the few finales where being quite predictable at times was *deeply* to its credit, not to mention to the credit of the series as a whole. I’m gonna need the Cal/Angela theme ASAP, Mr. Reznor.

At any rate, not to parlay in conspiracies (but to totally go full tinfoil) does anyone think Johns didn’t actually have
