Pinninfarina did the 164. It’s first model year was 87 so that puts it 4yrs ahead of the Subaru which first hit the streets in 91. Could be some of the Pinninfarina folk moved to Ital or were “inspired” by the look.

This is very true. Once you know the aircraft fleet mix intended for a gate(s) you then play with the geometry and orientation as well as the lead in lines and push back geometry. All done in CAD modelling. No need for toy airplanes on a 4x8 table.
