I don't know that it's actually that far away. I think it just looks that way because there is no traditional gauge cluster. I doubt you'd have to lean any further forward than with the average screen in today's cars.

What, exactly, is idiotic about it? All it really does is push the menu bar and system icons into the same horizontal plane as the camera, rather than below it. This gives you that much more usable screen.
