Whoa, super stoked for this! I love the original and it looks like they are nailing the music & atmosphere. Hopefully it is balanced better than the first - I could never get past the first handful of missions, and I found out later it’s apparently because the game was punishing me for doing too well early on.

I wonder if you use similar software that would enable human translation. Right now it requires ROM hacking to translate, but if you could just scan the screen and compare to a pre-made line-by-line script translation then anyone familiar with both languages could do a translation of a game without the technical skill

This was fascinating. All the lying, excuses and apologetics - it seems like an abusive relationship.

Just please tell me the annoying soldiers, guards and villagers don’t say “ploughing” every other word.

I remember enjoying this one as a kid. The world was so huge and mysterious for that era. But inevitably I just wandered around aimlessly having no idea where to go. I never even got one of the body parts.

Who is this... for? It’s not like Keen exactly has a lot of cultural cache to begin with, but certainly none with the casual audience / under-12 crowd they seem to be aiming for.

Dear video games,

This is not just a console launch. This is the future of gaming.”

Finally the gritty Crossfire reboot we’ve been waiting for. That weird toy/game that was looked awesome in ads that no one actually owned and apparently sucked in real life.

From the image on top it sure looks like that Call of Duty: Black Ops III is an N64 exclusive. What a twist!

I don’t know enough law to judge the legal merits of the case. But I have to imagine the context is important - this is a vehicle used in war and paid for by taxpayers, and as such, its depiction could constitute political expression which is (or should be) more protected. If it was a Lamborghini used in GTA without

Death insurance sounds like what zombies and ghosts get in case they are accidentally restored to life

Busted my wrist after a spill biking yesterday, so, most games are hard! Looking for games I can play one-handed. I think that means Planescape: Torment.

Wow, that seems pretty harsh (although 100% accurate.) I don’t really get the hostility, but okay. Like, I didn’t say anything insulting about anyone except possibly cheaters. I guess that’s the internet?

Without caring enough about any of this to actually look at the evidence, I would tend to believe these marks are unintentional, just because I don’t understand and can’t relate to the kind of person who would cheat at a Magic tournament. You have to be a combination of being a total Magic nerd, highly competitive,

It’s interesting - when everyone was begging for a FF7 remake, I always imagined it more like a remaster - same game but with re-rendered HD backgrounds, high-poly models, etc. The original game is great but looks godawful today, and we wanted a way to make it palatable to the modern eye. As a full 3D action remake...

A thousand times this.

This whole series is amazing and I love it. Thanks so much for this, Tim. And I am definitely NOT requesting you to do another series on the translations of the collected works of Haruki Murakami. But, you know, if you decided to do that, I would watch.

Really nice explanation!
