Where do you get the electrical current, though? you have to put more in than you'd get out.

The reason these things run on diesel or gas is not necessarily efficiency, but availability. Your multi-million dollar tank isn't worth jack if you can't easily fill it up - how are you supposed to recharge for 12 hours in the field? Battery swap wouldn't be an option, obviously.

And yes, they could be hybrid.. but…
