We'll I'm the first person who mentioned adoption, and I'm well aware of these issues. Why do you assume I am not?

I don't mean no more regulation in a simplistic/libertarian way, but while I'm not an expert, what I've heard is that there are many cases where case workers can't make the right decisions for children because they are hemmed in by certain regulations. I know a lot of case workers in CT who complained about not being

I didn't know that Augusten Burroughs quote! Thanks!

Sure, there is no doubt a critical need to invest in everything to do with foster children, etc, from better salaries to social workers, to lower case loads, to less regulation so that they can make better decisions, including in the adoption field.

Hate all you want...

I'm not down with not judging. People here judge others - for being republican, for example - all the time. I have sympathy with any fear prospective adopters may have about dealing with a child who has had a very difficult life (although I think it's overblown) but I do question the ability of someone to really be

We all have natural instincts that we get over all the time. And there's nothing lofty about my point of view - on the contrary, it is the result of an incredibly difficult life that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

I have fertility issues, so I get the pain, in fact, coming from a completely effed up family, I probably have a far stronger desire to start a new one of my own than most people.

Well, people can have children the usual way, or they can adopt slightly older children from the foster system. As someone who grew up in an abusive home, it sucks to see people put so much energy into insisting on genetic purity when there are so many children at need.

Her thoughts are really muddled but I can understand the gut reaction against artificial wombs. We haven't figured out the ethics of surrogacy or organ donation, and I do wonder whether we're up to figuring out artificial wombs.

My first sentence was about how women in the 20s are still really really young.

You'd have to be a lunatic to think that Michelle Obama is not in amazing shape and doesn't eat a super healthy diet. Sorry.

Yup. No schools are currently equipped to deal with Celiac.

Agreed. Also, as a woman of color with big breasts, it's crazy how much attention I get for them. It used to make me be very careful, and basically wear uncomfortable tanks for bras, but I felt like breasts were "tacky". These days, although I get a fair amount of comments on it, I can't be bothered too much about

Oh my god! In their twenties! Practically geriatric!

Young people? Really? Could you get more condescending?

Another commentator says he beats her up at some point. How is that gentle?

Too bad she didn't steal Cate Blanchett's talent... 'cause I found her so wooden.

Although some of the problem is that the covers ARE embarrassing. They do so often look like they are soft porn covers, or they have incredibly cheezy colors (so much pink and purple! I happen to HATE pink and purple).

I was so excited for this but it sucked. It was just... stilted. Part of it was the voiceovers - they just don't work. Then there was the language - after spending so much money on gorgeous locations and costumes, couldn't they find someone to do basic due diligence on using historically appropriate language? For
